After completing part 2 City and Guilds in 2005 at Otley College with Annette
Morgan as my tutor I became part of the textile artist groups "Free Spirits" and
"Out Of The Fold" and have been holding exhibitions since 2008.
I take my inspiration from my surroundings, historical costume, nature, especially
flowers and always looking for ways of how I can interpret this into textiles and
texture. I like to work with muted colours, natural dyed fabrics, paper and the
luxury of silk.
I try to recycle and have been working with Saga magazines as they have the
continuity and depth of colours needed when over painting the mosaic textile effect.
My work also has an ethereal look as I like using sheers and muslin and vintage
fabrics and using an embellisher to incorporate scraps of whites and creams,
adding sheer flowers, hand embroidery, buttons and beads. I like to use my sewing
machine to its potential experimenting with patterns and tensions to give an aged
appearance.
"A little piece of Tudor" is permanently on show at Denny Bros Ottewill Art shop in
Bury St Edmunds.
My 3D piece "Once upon a time" won third place in Quilt Creations at the Festival
of Quilts in 2015 and a piece of my work has been commissioned by Val Holmes to
appear in her book published in 2016
