Inspired by tap reflections

Early in my life I was introduced to stitch on my mother’s treadle Singer sewing machine. We explored knitting, a disaster for me, crochet and tatting.

Later I went to college where I studied Art including an introduction to Batik which I continue to explore in my current work.

This quilt is inspired by reflections on the ceiling of my kitchen. Hand and machine quilted with areas of trapunto. Exhibited at Festival of Quilts.

Inspired by pneumatic bone structure of birds.

Much later I inherited my mother’s sewing machine and decided to find out how to use. From a day course “Get to know your machine” an interest in patchwork and quilting developed.

I joined the Creative Stitch Patchwork and Quilting course and then went on to the Advanced Stitched Textiles course.

During a break between the two courses I became interested in both hand and machine embroidery.

I enjoy exploring new ways of embellishing textiles and using metals. Ideas for designs come from
natural objects and even reflections and the pattern of my dentist’s lights.

This piece is using contrasting metal; heat treated copper shim and stainless steel fabric with distressed muslin stained with coffee

A piece using handmade paper and stitch. Exploring texture
