Monochrome - work by Heather Evans

Heather has done a lot of research into the photographic cyanotype process which was first discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1846. She has tried to manipulate this process to create an abstract impressionistic effect which reflects her style.

For the Out of the Fold 'Monochrome' exhibition Heather has used cyanotype and dyed fabrics to create a series of work. Her inspiration came from the sea and looking at the work of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, abstract artist (1912 - 2004) and the work of Peter Green, painter and printmaker.

To see all of Heather's work please come along to the exhibition at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings IP17 1SP from 30th Sept until 5th October 2022

Introducing new member Penny Evans

Penny Evans is the latest member to join Out of the Fold.

Her love of stitch was fostered from a young age having been surrounded by Grandma’s who knitted everything, including her first swimming costume and a Mum who was an accomplished seamstress who through City and Guilds became an exhibiting Textile artist. But it was only after 2017 having given up full-time work that Penny too could immerse herself in her creative interests.

Penny’s work is very much influenced by her love of Geography – contours, topography and relief feature large.  Raising the surface, texture and bold lines using mixed media, machine and hand stitch are a feature of her work.

Penny takes inspiration from her local landscape and the seasonal changes on the flora and fauna surrounding her mid-Norfolk home. She loves experimenting and is never happier than combining techniques and materials to create her artworks.

Penny graduates in 2022 after completing the 2-year Advanced Stitch course in Suffolk, having also completed the 2-year Creative Stitch course in 2020. The sillk moth inspired costume, one of Penny’s felted works, will be appearing in ‘Fiber Transformed’ the Summer 2022 issue of Fiber Art Now magazine, following its selection in the juried competition.

As a student I have found much of my work is based in the natural world and enjoy the process developing my own style and experimenting with different mediums.
