Penny Evans

Penny is a textile artist and maker living in the ‘Brecks’, Norfolk. Daily walks in Thetford Forest with her dog Juno, is the source of much of her inspiration. Usually returning with a pocketful of ‘finds’, that she uses either directly in work or studies close-up to inform texture, form and colour choices.

Her particular passion is wet felting. Felt won’t be hurried, the alchemy of water, heat and soap bind the patiently laid out wool fibres whilst gentle agitation creates a new textile which is both soft and strong. It is a highly versatile textile and one of the most ancient forms of textile making. Penny with her background in textile and stitch techniques uses these skills in her felt making, combining materials and techniques in her felt creations.

Penny's felted garment 'Metamorphosis' inspired by the Eri Silk Moth won first prize in the Quilt Creations category at the Festival of Quilts 2024 held in the Birmingham NEC, and has been published in Fibre Arts Now magazine Summer 2022.
