Introducing new member Penny Evans

Penny Evans is the latest member to join Out of the Fold.

Her love of stitch was fostered from a young age having been surrounded by Grandma’s who knitted everything, including her first swimming costume and a Mum who was an accomplished seamstress who through City and Guilds became an exhibiting Textile artist. But it was only after 2017 having given up full-time work that Penny too could immerse herself in her creative interests.

Penny’s work is very much influenced by her love of Geography – contours, topography and relief feature large.  Raising the surface, texture and bold lines using mixed media, machine and hand stitch are a feature of her work.

Penny takes inspiration from her local landscape and the seasonal changes on the flora and fauna surrounding her mid-Norfolk home. She loves experimenting and is never happier than combining techniques and materials to create her artworks.

Penny graduates in 2022 after completing the 2-year Advanced Stitch course in Suffolk, having also completed the 2-year Creative Stitch course in 2020. The sillk moth inspired costume, one of Penny’s felted works, will be appearing in ‘Fiber Transformed’ the Summer 2022 issue of Fiber Art Now magazine, following its selection in the juried competition.

New member Heather Evans

We are delighted to welcome Heather Evans as a member of Out of the Fold.

I have had an interest in art, photography and being creative for a long time.

Over the past four years  I have focused my creativity into textile art, having completed the Creative Stitched Textiles course followed by the Advanced Stitched Textiles course.

As a student I have found much of my work is based in the natural world and enjoy the process developing my own style and experimenting with different mediums.

Having now joined the Out of the Fold, I would like to develop an individual style and look forward  to the challenge of creating exhibition pieces.
